Why hello there

Welcome. Come join us on our adventure as we expatriate the heck out of Eastern Europe.

Why Poland?

Why Poland?

One day in 2015, while sitting on the warm sand of a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Mr. and I decided to leave our house in San Francisco and move abroad. We weren't Mr. and Mrs. quite yet, but things were moving in that direction, so we thought what a better way to start off our marriage than with an adventure. After all, wanderlust was in our relationship's DNA from the very beginning.

We met in San Francisco after the end of our previous, long-term relationships and discovered that we were both about to set off on an eat-pray-loving trip around the world. We continued keeping in touch during our separate journeys - I'd write from Argentina or he'd send a postcard from India - and when our trips ended, we met again. Neither of us were planning to return to San Francisco, where we both had spent over a decade, but a work opportunity led us back.

While we loved being together, the familiar city wasn't making us very happy. For both of us, San Francisco had a long, complicated history and in recent years, with the tech and related real estate boom, it became a more soulless city that made us (and many others who've been there for a while) feel like outsiders.

And so, a few months after getting married , we made our big move abroad to the place that was going to be new, exciting, and full of possibilities...

A place called Poland...

Before I let Mr. explain how the sandy island dream in the Pacific became Poland, let me just say that in my mind, Poland always looked approximately like this:

I imagined it as a drab nation full of Soviet apartment buildings, whose citizens drink a lot of vodka (or wodka, as they say) and eat pierogi for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

So then how and why did we end up in Poland, you may ask? I'm going to let Mr. explain...
